A non-medical, trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and spiritual support to the dying and their families. They assist with care planning, vigil planning, legacy projects, comfort measures, and education about the dying process. 

• Hospice provides medical care, nurses, and aides. Doulas are complementary, focusing entirely on comfort, companionship, and holistic support, filling gaps that medical teams cannot. Doulas can spend hours with a client, whereas hospice visits are usually limited. 

• Planning: Helping create an Advance Directive or "Death Plan".
• Support: Offering comfort, guidance, and emotional support to family members. 

Services are generally out-of-pocket and not covered by insurance. Doulas may charge hourly or offer package rates depending on the services required. 

Families often ask for guidance on what to do immediately after a death, such as how to prepare the body at home and how to begin the grieving process
